Cagen Chaney: Coach’s Custom Woodworking

“Well, if you’re looking to grow and you’re not really sure how to grow and you need to get so many questions answered. It makes you not feel like you’re doing this alone because doing this alone is so hard. You can Google anything but you’re not going to get an exact answer. “

Welcome to a brand new episode of the Woodpreneur Podcast. Today, your host Steve Larosiliere sits down with Cagen Chaney of Coach’s Custom Woodworking. Cagan is one of the recent members of a particularly impressive club, which is woodworkers who have gone full time as Woodpreneurs! Focusing on high-end tables and dining sets and progressing from a long waitlist of custom orders you won’t want to miss this episode.

“You know, there’s 1000 ways to skin a cat. Well, you at least have people who have probably skinned a couple cats at some point. So it’s been really good. So if you’re looking to grow, look into networking, look into building yourself and branding yourself. You need help with that. That’s where you need to be – it’s here.”

The key benefits of having a mentor are: guidance, motivation, emotional support, and role modeling. You can Google a lot of things these days and you would probably get a lot of information but having a mentor who will guide you and teach you would still be far better. It can help you accomplish several things in a span of 6 months.

Cagen was very thankful for joining Steve’s mentorship program. “Dude, I appreciate it. And man, like a lot has been because of you just being able to help. You being able to answer questions, and the most important thing – leading us down the right path where we need to be able to succeed. You know, and that’s been the best thing.”

Applying the Lessons Learned

Cagen was part of a 6 months mentorship program for Woodpreneurs where he learned about leveling up his skills, improving his logo, branding, and not being afraid of changes and taking risks.

As Steve puts it: “I’m learning more and more and more. A lot of experts say that if you’re under 1 million bucks a year, 80% of your time should be spent on marketing and sales.”

“Think of things that you can control. You can control how many leads you get per day. How many touches that content that you put out? It’s really all about developing that name. Finish up that portfolio.” – Steve Larosiliere
