How to Create Consistent Instagram Posts for your Wood Business

Hey Woodpreneurs,

So I wanted to answer this question somebody asked, which is “How do you make good and consistent Instagram posts for a wood business.”

First off, it’s really easy. When you look at the feed of all the people that you follow on Instagram, what are the things that really stand out to you? What are the things that capture your attention and make you comment, like, save it or share it? Whatever it is, you need to go through your feed and make note of what seems to be performing well, and what stands out to you. This is so important because boring old posts don’t get engagement. And when you don’t get engagement, people don’t see your posts, and your followers won’t see your content. This is why we need to practice social listening.

So, the first thing you need to do is to really just monitor, and notice what catches your attention. Usually, that will be the best quality or best performing content. What’s working well right now is; Reels, Time Lapse Videos, and video content in general. So we’ve been able to grow our channels because of video content as an example. We don’t post static photos unless there’s something incredible in the caption, it’s a shout-out or the photo something really special like a gigantic log.

Timing Is Everything

How do you get into the rhythm of making these types of posts? I would suggest thinking in terms of daily and/or weekly outlines, think about what are the things that you are working on right now, what will you be doing this week or this month, and how can you use what you’re already doing to make content?

If you outline the different things that you could be doing throughout the day, you’re forced to be really intentional, because if you’re not, your content won’t get made or planned. That’s why it’s critical to maximize the content you’re making passively. We know that the best types of posts are; works in progress, customer testimonials, and interactions. If a customer is coming by to pick up some lumber, take a picture of them and tag them.

Lastly, you just have to be yourself. If you don’t know what to do, the best thing you could do is just to be yourself. If you’re shy, you can shout out people or companies in your posts, and appreciate people that you admire or tools you love, etc., it doesn’t have to be all about you right? Just be yourself, post about your work, and try to be intentional with your time so that content creation becomes an addition and not a whole new house of cards to manage.
