This is the number one question that most part-time woodworkers ask. How do you leave your full-time job to work full-time on your business? In this blog, we will discuss the things to consider before leaving your full-time job. 

 

Woodworking Full-Time 

 

How will you do this full time, and why do you want to do woodworking full-time? Take time to think about the main reason why you want to shift as it will give you the motivation to fulfill what you want to do. 

 

Some people prefer do the woodworking hustle on the weekends or after work. There are professionals in all walks of life like financial analysts and software salespeople that have woodworking businesses on the side that they want to take off.

 

Before leaving your full-time job you should have the passion and the courage and commitment to do what you want to do. This decision will change your life but it will let you be around your family much more often.

Things to consider 

 

Here are some of the things you might want to consider or check before leaving your full-time job: 

 

  1. Think about the things you like about your current employment and your current situation. 
  2. Keep in mind the things you are going to give up, the security and safety. You need to do a reality check and make sure it’s going to be worth it. 
  3. And if you are in a relationship, your partner or spouse should be 100% on board. You will need support while developing this business. Share your plans and timeframe with them, let them understand your situation. 
  4. Start saving as much as possible so you can build up an emergency fund. Having a partner or spouse that has a full-time job is a plus. It will make things easier. 
  5. Take profits from your hustle and reinvest. Buy tools and machinery that will make you more efficient and allow you to make more money faster.
  6. Build up your brand, invest in a website and social media, put more content, and let them know your brand as if you are already full-time. 
  7. Use your vacation and days off to start working on your business. Try to take off one or two Fridays a month, so you will have a couple of 3 days weekends.

Friction 

 

You need to create friction and that friction will create a lot of stress. Your part-time or side hustle must start to edge up against your full-time job, in terms of money or time. You need to exert effort in your part-time as your full-time job. Working on your side hustle will make you create more money. 

 

From there you can start putting out bids and offers, so ensure that you have time to do it. If you think you have money consistently coming in, then you are ready to leave your full-time job!
