Sawmill tips and hacks by Dreams4designs
Dreams4deisgn shares some critical sawmill tips that we need to apply as Woodpreneurs! Give this a read, give the video a watch and let us know what you think!
Speed
Speed is everything, especially when we are talking about getting projects finished, we want things done fast but of course, still high-quality. It’s a different matter altogether if we’re talking about blades. This is a big “No, No!” If you try to push the blade too fast it will break.
If you try to cut lumber too fast your dimensions will be off too, so please don’t try to speed up, keep it slow and steady. Speed is your enemy.
Sound
Same as any tool in your shop or even your car, sound will tell you everything. If your blade is dull, broken, or dirty you can obviously hear it.
To prevent broken blades listen to your machine/sawmill.
Clean up
If possible try to clean up all your machines at the end of every shift.
Yes, these tips are common and should be standard but if you treat them as critical tips, you will have no problems in the future.
Sharp Blades
Always use a sharp blade. There are some logs that only require one blade but some require you to change at least 3 times.
Save your machine and engine and replace your blades often to prevent overheating.
Oil It
Oil your machine when you’ve finished working. Or if you have a feeling that you are not going to use it for a very long time, put oil in it.
