How to Convert Followers into Leads and Customers

How to Convert Followers into Leads and Customers

“I [started a business when] I was a teenager, just to sell little art stickers and stuff. So I’ve always had that mindset of being a business guy, but for me, the hardest part [is the administrative duties] I’m entering receipts in a spreadsheet, and like, I don’t even know how to use a computer well.

When I’m talking to my accountant it’s usually a lot of advice about what I could be doing better. For me, I keep stressing that it’s a side business because if someone’s doing this full time, you better get your ducks in a row.

For a full-time business, you better be doing things properly. For me, I can afford a mistake here and there. So any advice on those administrative tasks would be great.”

Highest Paid Hours Need to Be Priority

So this is simple advice, I would say make a list of all the stuff that you have to do, and only you can do.

Then outsource everything else. Literally, outsource everything else. It is not worth it to do things that are beyond your skill set, or beneath your paygrade when there’s somebody that can do it cheaper, faster, and better than yourself.

I say this all the time to the Woodpreneur community, just because you can do it doesn’t mean you have to do it. You don’t have to do all of it. Just because you know how to design a website, doesn’t mean you have to design a website, hire somebody else. Because then you make more money by making products, you make more money, creating content. Those high-value hours that only you can do are what you should be focusing on, not the minimum wage tasks.

So that’s the first thing I would just literally make a list of the things that you absolutely hate doing, and then just type up a job description for those tasks. Post it on Craigslist or Kijiji or even find some people on Fiverr or UpWork and if they do good work, hire them outside of that platform and integrate them into your business.

Viktor notes he has hired one person, but Steve suggests he try and give them more responsibilities as well and really focus on outsourcing those tasks.

“In terms of the business side of things, Steve, you couldn’t be more accurate when you said, the amount of time you’ll end up saving, because now what I started doing was I instantly forward all my emails to someone, and then they deal with it all in the background.”

Building a Mailing List

I think my other piece of advice, and I should have looked at your website before, is you need a mailing list. You need a mailing list because you have 93,000 followers and you don’t know any of those people. You don’t have a way, if your account goes away to email all those people or get in touch with them.

So I would focus on that, and again, you can use your outsourced person to help pull that together. Super easy. Actually, you know what, tell your social media person to go to MailChimp.com and, and you can get a free account for up to 2000 email addresses.

Then you can create a landing page there. So one of your link tree branches could be “join my mailing list.”

Let’s do some math, so 93,000 people, right? If you can get 2% of them to join your mailing list, that’s 1800 people. Let’s just say you send a monthly email to your 1800 people, and you get a reply from let’s just say 2% of those people. That’s 37 people you convert from community to customers. You’re so good at engaging and making people feel like they are a part of the community, and like they’re following your story and want to be involved, so even half of that is 18 people. Even if those people just want to support you and buy a T-Shirt, that’s a successful email.

In terms of advice for the Woodpreneur Community, Viktor says to take a good look at why you’re doing what you’re doing, whether it’s your business or your social media business, and just really try to answer that question. Why are you doing what you’re doing?

“It’ll really help you achieve your goals. If your main business is to sell stuff for money to pay the bills, focus on that, forget social media, social media is awesome to advertise and to sell but if you’re not needing that, don’t prioritize it.”
