The Importance of Documenting and Photography your work in the Wood Industry by Steve Larosiliere

Hey Woodpreneurs! Today and over the coming weeks we will be discussing topics from the Business and Marketing Q and A’s! Let’s begin!

Social Media

With the rise of Social Media especially over the course of the pandemic era, getting people to know your brand is much easier and more important than ever.

Creating a page or profile on online platforms can count as your storefront. Since people can’t necessarily walk into your shop as easily or often, you can instead use online platforms and social media to allow people to still connect with you, see who you are, and what you’re doing.

Photography through Social Media

This is very important for the engagement of your clients and for people working in the online space. It is vital to invest in quality photography, quality video, and use those skills to capture your process.

People don’t just want to see the finished product, they also want to see the process. They will want to see how you do your pour, and how you work with your mill. They want to see how things are done. It lets them feel a sense of ownership, as though they are part of the process.

The reason why the local food movement grew so much is because of the process; People want to see the process. They are tired of the big box chain store mentality. They want to see where the meat is coming from.

They want to know who is making the products that last in their family, their house, and their business. The more of the story that can be shared, the better.

Photography and Videography

Photography skills and equipment are such an important investment.

If you are working on something and it is really hard for you to do handle the photography and videography yourself, hire somebody to come in and take photographs and videos for you.

I have a client who brings in a photographer and videographer every after build to take really good photos and it ends up on their website and in their marketing materials. That’s the level you need to rise to. It will make your brand look more professional.

Using an Android phone for taking photos is also okay. The latest phone has a really good quality camera. Using apps for editing is a good idea as well. Applications like Lightroom and Snapseed are excellent if you are not satisfied with the lighting of your photo.

Photography and videography are so important in order for you to help differentiate yourself from your competitors and to get a better quality story in front your customers.
